![]() Furniture and most fixtures were dated to the 90's but the bed was very comfortable and reasonably firm. ![]() There is a full kitchen, including range, stove, microwave, full fridge, coffee maker, and small dishwasher. Inside, these are one bedroom, 1.5 bath apartments. The only noise problem came from a group of guys feeding the seagulls one night, so everyone had to put up with the cawing and begging for hours until they calmed down. The harbor is not noisy, and no strong diesel or fishy smells - at least in April. The sunset pictures are real - picture postcard perfect. ![]() The balconies are HUGE - very deep, with several lounge chairs plus a circular wooden picnic table with two benches. This is a small hotel with patios/balconies right on the harbor. I can't say we did a lot other than relax, but Captains Landing kept us happy and there is so much to enjoy just wandering around town. Except for the night we arrived and the night we ate at Dajio we ate while enjoying the same view. We were supplied with envelopes of Folgers coffee (plus sugar and Coffee Mate) to use in the kitchen coffee maker, which we appreciated even though we didn't use it, since we travel with coffee beans and a grinder. Every day began with coffee on our balcony. The beds were comfortable, the extra half bath a welcome convenience, and we loved sleeping each night with just a screen (or a sliding glass door the one night it rained) between us and the moonlit harbor. Just driving around in a golf cart was a lot of fun, and the 20 mph speed limit and patience of the drivers we encountered made the golf cart the perfect vehicle. We rented a golf cart (another amenity Captains Landing offers - along with a library of books to loan, which we took advantage of too). If you're not into doing your own cooking, the best Ocracoke restaurant we have found so far is Dajio, located practically across the street from Captains Landing. Things can't get better than that - and the fish was wonderful cooked in the well-equipped full kitchen in our Captains Landing suite. An added benefit was that it is just a couple of doors away from the Ocracoke Seafood Company, which sells fresh seafood caught by local watermen who manage the business (owned by a foundation), so you both get the freshest fish and see the money go to the local watermen who work to catch it. They took good care of us - Deena was wonderful! We chose Captains Landing for the location, which was just what we dream of - right on the water looking out over Silver Lake harbor. The first day we had trouble with the TV, and they sent their very nice and capable maintenance man in to take care of it as soon as we reported the problem. We loved the suite at Captain's Landing, similar to a condo, but with maid service (which we wouldn't have asked for but appreciated) and a readily available and much appreciated staff. We'll be back! Things seem to get quieter as you go down the Outer Banks from the madness (in-season at least) north of the Oregon Inlet, and for us, Ocracoke is pretty much perfect. ![]() This was our first stay in Ocracoke, though we've been visiting the Outer Banks for about 10 years, normally renting condos in Hatteras and always taking the ferry across to Ocracoke for a visit.
